Scottish Labour's Davy Russell has won the by-election in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse.

Commenting on the result, Alastair Cameron, chair of Scotland in Union, said:

“This result is an important moment in Scottish politics.

“It shows that, above all, people are fed up with the SNP in government and want a change after years of nationalist obsession.

“They want politicians who focus on things that matter most to them, and that is something the SNP can no longer deliver.

“It also shows that the established pro-UK parties are best placed to challenge the SNP.

“Indeed, were it not for such a strong showing from Labour in this by-election, the number of Reform votes would have handed victory to the SNP.

“Once again, Scotland in Union’s tactical voting advice correctly identified the party best placed to beat the nationalists, as it did in every seat in the 2024 General Election.”
