SNP accused of ignoring Scotland’s priorities in independence debate

Scotland in Union has criticised the SNP for continuing to focus on independence while Scotland faces serious challenges across its public services.

Following an independence debate in the Scottish Parliament, we called on the Scottish Government to focus on improving schools, hospitals, justice and transport rather than pursuing another divisive referendum.

Alastair Cameron, chair of Scotland in Union, said:

“Scotland faces deep crises across several vital areas, from schools and hospitals to justice and the ferries.

“The basic job of a government should be to solve these problems, to improve education and health, and to keep communities safe and connected.

“Instead, John Swinney has made it abundantly clear he does not care about these things.

“He, and his fellow nationalists in the SNP and the Scottish Green party, care only about breaking up Britain and plunging Scotland through another bitter and divisive referendum.”
