Step closer to by election in Rutherglen and Hamilton West

On Saturday 20th May we started our campaign in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West constituency, leafleting door to door in the Spittal area letting local residents know how the SNP is letting them down.

Margaret Ferrier MP, who represents the area, is now facing a suspension from the House of Commons for 30 days. Once MPs vote to approve this, the Speaker will contact the local returning officer to initiate a recall petition.

A recall is where the electorate in an area can remove an elected representative before the end of their term by signing a recall petition. The petition will be open for six weeks.

People who live in the constituency and want to sign the petition must sign it in person at a signing station or do so by post or by proxy.

If 10% or more of eligible registered voters sign the petition, Margaret Ferrier will no longer be the MP and a by-election will be called to elect a replacement. If the 10% threshold is not reached then the recall fails and she will retain her seat.

This gives us a real opportunity to kick the SNP out of Rutherglen and Hamilton West and send a message to the SNP nationally, that we have had enough.

It is time for the people's priorities, not the SNP's.

If you would like to join us, then you can sign up here.

We will be active in the constituency every Saturday, and also one/two days during the week.

Come and join us!
