It has been another busy year for Scotland in Union, during which our small team has continued its vital work to keep Scotland secure in the UK, with help from our kind supporters and wonderful volunteers.
The highlight of our year was helping to reduce the number of SNP MPs from 48 to nine, providing a great platform for our essential work towards the crucial 2026 Holyrood election. In addition to this effort, the team has been active throughout the year - please see further down this email for a few highlights from 2024. If you are able to help us to continue our work through 2025, please do so here.
Scotland in Union will remain active throughout 2025. We still have some tickets available for our Burns Night on 23rd January in Glasgow, with Blair McDougall MP, Susan Murray MP and Jackson Carlaw MSP - plus special guests Nigel Griffiths, who will once again be delivering his fantastic rendition of Tam O’Shanter for us, and ex-SIU Chief Exec Pamela Nash MP. You can buy tickets here.
Thank you so much to all our supporters, and to everyone who has supported Scotland’s place in the United Kingdom this year.
Best wishes for the Christmas period, and Happy 2025 when it comes!

Scotland in Union’s 2024 Highlights
January
On Thursday 25th January, we celebrated our annual Burns Night, with Meghan Gallagher MSP, Michael Shanks MP, and Jamie Stone MP, in Glasgow. See more.
We also had some prominent media stories in January, including:
Delayed discharge patients across Scotland faced even longer waits in hospital last year. See here.
Nearly one in four Scottish businesses faced challenges in recruitment throughout November – the highest rate in the UK. See here.
February
We stood up for the pro-UK majority when Humza Yousaf claimed that the SNP winning most seats in a general election would be a mandate to break the UK apart. See here.
March
We published a ‘report card’ on Humza Yousaf’s year in charge. See below:
We also launched a video - the SNP are stuck in the past. Watch here.
April
In April, we launched exclusive SIU pin badges, for every new donation of £25 or more to our vital campaign:
As Humza Yousaf stood down, we highlighted the nationalists’ failures, including pointing out that the SNP/Green gov had missed 8 of its past 12 annual emission targets.
We highlighted the cost of the nationalists’ independence papers. See here.
And on a lighter note, on 1st April we announced a new campaign vehicle...
May
In May, we held a supporters’ event in Perth, with Luke Graham. See here.
Reacting rapidly to the news of a UK general election, we launched our pro-UK tactical voting campaign, including our constituency-by-constituency website and targeted physical advertising in key locations. See here.
It was also a month in which we said farewell to our CEO, Pamela Nash, but we were delighted in July when she was elected as MP for Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke.
June
June was a busy month, as we continued our tactical voting campaign and encouraged our supporters and volunteers to get out and support parties which were best placed to defeat the nationalists.
As well as continuing our tactical voting campaign, we highlighted SNP failures in the media. See here.
July
With the uplifting result of the general election in Scotland, we were pleased to observe that our tactical voting campaign’s recommended candidates had won or came second in every constituency. See here.
We celebrated every single medal (Gold, Silver & Bronze) Team GB won at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Team GB won 65 medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including 14 golds, 22 silver, and 29 bronze.
August
In August, we celebrated every single medal ParalympicsGB won at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Great Britain won 124 medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, finishing in second place in the medal table. Our medals included 49 Gold, 44 Silver and 31 Bronze.
We highlighted more nationalist failures, with a story about cancer mis-diagnosis and delayed diagnosis. See here.
September
We commented on the Scottish Government’s Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) statistics, which confirmed that being part of the UK means there is more money to spend on vital public services like the NHS. See here.
We also did the maths, and pointed out that the ‘union dividend’ since Scots voted to remain part of the UK in 2014 has been worth almost £200 billion to the Scottish public services. See here.
We published our major poll of the year, highlighting continued strong support from people in Scotland for remaining part of the UK and growing dissatisfaction with the SNP’s performance in government. See here.
Ten years on from the 2014 referendum, we shared a message to all our supporters. See here.
October
Our fantastic 2025 calendars went on sale. Every photo in these was sent in by an SIU supporter and selected through a campaign on social media:
November
In November, we had teams on the ground campaigning in Nicola Sturgeon’s constituency of Glasgow Southside. This effort was highlighted in the press. See here.
After SIU Director Alastair Cameron’s two-and-a-half-year battle with the Scottish Government about details of the ‘independence prospectus’, the Scottish Information Commissioner found that the Scottish Government had withheld information which it should have provided in the first place. This was covered in the Scottish edition of the Mail on Sunday.
We also announced our speakers for our 23rd January 2025 Burns Night: Blair McDougall MP, Susan Murray MP and Jackson Carlaw MSP.
December
We launched our 2024 ‘Advent Calendar’ on social media, with a series of posts providing facts about Scotland in the UK, or about Scotland in Union.
Thank you for all your support in 2024.
